神舟九号飞船于16日傍晚搭载3名航天员进入太空。根据既定的飞行方案，飞船将在轨飞行十余天，与天宫一号目标飞行器进行两次交会对接，第一次为自动交会对接，第二次由航天员手动控制完成。在18日约11时左右，神舟九号飞船将转入自主控制飞行，与天宫一号实施自动交会对接。此过程同天宫一号与神舟八号交会对接基本一致。
China's Shenzhou-9 manned spacecraft will complete an automated rendezvous and docking procedure with the Tiangong-1 lab module on Monday. After the docking, astronauts will enter the space lab to carry out scientific experiments, technical tests and physical exercises, as well as to take rests.
神舟九号载人飞船将于本周一与天宫一号实验模块完成自动对接。对接完成之后，航天员将进入空间实验室，在里面进行科学实验。

文中的“rendezvous and docking”便是交会对接的意思。rendezvous是指交会，汇合，docking是指对接，动词形式为dock。Shenzhou-9 spacecraft 即指神舟九号飞船，spacecraft指宇宙飞船，神舟九号为载人飞船（manned spacecraft），而之前的神舟八号为无人飞船（unmann spacecraft）。此次发射的神舟九号飞船将与之前发射的空间实验模块space lab module——天宫一号（Tiangong-1, or Heavenly Palace-1）交会对接。这是我国首次载人空间交会对接。
